Use of artificial intelligence (AI)

USE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

The UTE Approach adheres to the recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), which aim to promote transparency and ethical conduct in scientific research and publication:

Authors should disclose in their cover letter whether they have used artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted technologies (such as Large Language Models, chatbots, or image creators) in the production of the submitted work.

Authors who use this type of technology should describe, both in their cover letter and in the submitted work in the Materials and Methods section or in the Declarations section, as appropriate, how they have used AI. For example:

  • In the AI Use Statement, whether AI was used in the writing, style, and language corrections.
  • In Materials and Methods, whether AI was used for data collection, statistical analysis, analysis, or figure generation.

Chatbots (such as ChatGPT) should not be listed as authors because they cannot be held responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of the work, and these responsibilities are necessary conditions for authorship. Therefore, authors are responsible for any submitted material that includes the use of AI-assisted technologies.

Authors should carefully review and edit the output, as AI may generate results that appear authoritative but may be incorrect, incomplete, or biased. Authors should not list AI or AI-assisted technologies as the author or co-author, nor should they cite an AI product as the author.

Authors must be able to affirm that their article is free of plagiarism, both in the text and in AI-produced images, and must ensure that due credit is given for all cited material.
